The ATSF Mangold Division is a freelanced railroad based on the

trains dominate. A local operates daily to switch industries located
throughout the line. There are two 6 track staging loops stacked on top of
one another making it possible to operate as point to point or continuous run
using the automatic turnouts on either end of the staging yards. There is a
constant grade between towns and the decks making it possible to eliminate
the need for a helix. Upon exiting the lower level staging area, a train
enters a large double ended yard with engine facility and intermodal loading
area. The crews at the engine facility are hard at work upgrading or

Southern’s (NS) Pocahontas Division in the coal country of southern West
Virginia. The walk-in style, bi-level,
point-to-point railroad represents a modern-day, fictitious version of the NS
main line between Bluefield and Williamson. The primary focus of the railroad is on operations and features a
single track main line with passing sidings remotely controlled by the
dispatcher using the JMRI PanelPro interface connected to the NCE DCC
system. While two staging yards at
either end of the railroad provide bridge traffic, most traffic travelling
across the railroad is generated by coal mines and industries along the six
branch lines that feed into the main. One working classification yard, Yaeger, handles cars from the branch
industries and incoming main line freights and assembles outgoing locals and
manifests as determined by the car card and waybill system. Unit coal trains are assembled by the
operators at the mines along the branches and hauled to their designated
destination.

scenery abounds on this 100% sound equipped layout. Steam, featuring
camelback and single cab locomotives, and first generation diesel power
handle five interchanges from four different railroads (PRR, NYC, two LV and
CN). There is a hidden 8 track staging
yard controlled by two parallel panels for ease of operation. Genesee Gorge provides approximately 10’ of
interesting vantage points within the gorge with view blocks limiting how
much can be seen at one time. Two
yards provide work for two operators each to make up trains, handle
interchange and switch local industries.
Three mainline engineers work the regular trains, helper and some
interchanges. Morning and evening milk
train operation adds a not-often modeled operation. |

1: A permanent HO Scale layout which is located
inside the main building at Lamm Gardens in Jackson, WI. Dream 2: An outdoor G Scale layout. This
garden railroad is located in front of the large barn. Dream 3: The club has built an 8' x 8'
N-Scale layout that depicts Lamm Farm & Gardens and includes a proposed
track plan for the 160-acre property. Dream 4: Although still a dream, the Lamm family is working towards a
“real” train that will encircle the property. The train will provide rides to
families through woods, fields & trails.

HO layout is a loop to loop, single track main line railroad with passing
sidings and east and west bound staging. The short line is a point to point

signals. Scenes of interest include the Chicago Union passenger station with
the tracks underneath, a large locomotive servicing facility, power plant,
coal mine, cement company and quarry. Motive power from C&NW, Soo Line,
CP, Milwaukee Road, DMIR, Metra, and WC can be seen. The N layout has two main line loops and a
point to point section and can be expanded with the use of our Ntrak modules.
Two major freight yards and locomotive service area are modeled. Interchanges
with other railroads keeps the W&IN busy. Other scenes of interest are a
train derailment with fire and smoke, a logging and paper mill operation,
train museum, oil refinery, small farm, industrial area and an airport runway
which is built over the railroad. Two custom painted Dash 9’s in W&IN

| This layout set in the Pacific northwest features 90 foot trees,
4 lumber mills, various logging methods, the ability to run five trains on
separate track, and some very interesting scenes including totem poles, an
eagle's nest on a spar tree and a slash burner that smokes and flashes. Most
buildings are scratch built or high quality laser kits. The layout was
feauted in the May 2010 issue of Scale Rails. |

The Corn Belt Northern is comprised of two freelanced layouts
connected by a functional interchange track.
The original 15 x 25 layout is a double tract folded dog gone and is
100% sceniced with highly detailed wooded hills, sandstone out croppings,
rivers, tunnels, a hand painted backdrop and many craftsman kits. This road
alternates using MILW and GN equipment. The second layout is a 15 x 40 single
track point to point road which is 70%
sceniced and detailed with CNW equipment. Operation is conducted via a
computer generated switch list.

| The
layout features the Canadian National Railways (CNR) running west from Lake
Superior to Winnipeg. A major port
city includes Canadian Pacific and CNR industrial switching, plus passenger
and freight operations as the starting point for this out and back layout
(continuous running is possible). The
mainline passes through rugged hill country to a town with a modern lumber
mill and continues past a scenic waterfall.
The layout is built in sections using extruded foam board and
lightweight bench-work, and is designed to be moveable. Most of the buildings are kit bashed or
scratch built. Sky and hill backdrops
highlight the early autumn scenery. |
